A fresh take on modelling and estimation with Junaid Mubeen

Overview

Estimation, modelling and the application of technology are key features of not just the Core Maths specification, but also of the potential advantages that humans have over computers.

In this session, which is part of our Core Maths Winter Festival, Junaid will be highlighting the innate ability humans have for estimation and will take you through fresh examples of how this skill can be used to get a handle on various real world phenomena. Building on this, the session will explore how students need to recognise their relative strengths and weaknesses with numbers when working alongside computers, and then develop the skills to create, use and interpret models effectively.

We hope this session will inspire you to explore new avenues of estimation and modelling with your students.

Who will benefit from attending?

These sessions are designed to appeal to all maths teachers, regardless of how much experience of Core Maths you have had, if any. These sessions are also likely to appeal to teachers of other subjects that incorporate some mathematical content, such as Biology, Geography and Social Science.
